Listen, I love my job (I really do). I am very appreciative for my lot in life. People need to know what is going on with the union Locally, Provincially, and Nationally. Coming to one general meeting a month doesn't seem to be the most effective way of transmission. I know the world wants everyone to speak to everyone in person but in our Local environment that is nearly impossible. You don't have to agree with my position, and if the Local comes out with an Official Response, defer to the/that Response.
I have an Employer Code of Conduct to live up to, as well I make sure to include my union in my posts. I strive to keep my posts in line and above reproach. There will be times when information shared is not all positive. Learning to deal with bad news is a life skill. I don't claim to be an expert. I believe in order to move forward you must know all the facts warts and all.
Members elected me into a position of power and responsibility and I need to inform them the best way I know how. This blog is that means, and I intend to use this medium and help it evolve into whatever is needed to strengthen this union for which I am proud to be a part of. I'll be honest this venue hasn't been the best return on investment either. It is why I am trying podcasting. The constant danger is can I inform people without giving too much away in print. So much weight is given to printed media. I want to be absolutely clear.
You are not to quote me officially in regards to representing the Union for which I am passionate about. Nor the Employer for which also has a robust media relations department. If you want to speak with them, do so through those official channels.
It's not mantra, or wishful thinking. I love my job. The intended and unintended consequences of decisions is vital for members to be informed.
I am not trying to speak badly about any particular person, and while the Corporation for which I work, the National Union body for which I am am member is quite large, there may come a time that feelings are bruised. I do not represent my either in this blog. I represent my viewpoint in my Union for which I was elected. My sole goal for this site is to inform members of what is going on in their union. People need to know about the changes, new policies, upcoming events, etc. If you feel like there has been slander, please let me know. Posts can be removed, apologies written, corrections made. I am open to taking them down. The reason must accompany the complaint.
